Motive power refuels in Cuthbert, GA on the GSWR. Quite the cluster of paint schemes seen here. BL 508, GSWR 1703, BL 509 (since stenciled 2015), GSWR 2880 (in Luxapalilla Valley paint), and GSWR 2207 (in Salt Lake Southern paint).

Like most of the motive power, it has been cycled off in favor of rebuilt/repainted power. It was rumored to be in line for a rebuild and nose chop, but I have no confirmation as to where it went. With the acquisition of the HAL, CCH, and now the RailAmerica properties, power changes are almost daily. The jobs have also changed. Where 3 trains used to meet in Cuthbert, now 3 meet in Arlington, and a new office has been built there as a reporting location. The power cycles through the locomotive shops in Dawson GA, Cedar Springs GA, and Panama City, FL, so power from any of the 6 local G&W railroads plus whatever new power comes in rotates through these shops, making for very interesting road trains.

What will be interesting to see for those of us here in the upper Great Plains is what the G&W is going to do with the Otter Tail Valley's motive power.

The OTV, based out of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, has been running with a hodge podge of EMDs, which are getting pretty beat up and could use some work.  I have to admit a unified paint scheme wold be nice to see too.

Traffic for the line is grain from two shuttle load locations, coal into an ethanol facility and ethanol out, and coal to the Hoot Lake power plant.  How long that will last is anyone's guess, as Otter Tail Power-no relation to the railroad-plans on closing the plant sometime before 2020.

Ah, that makes sense. BTW, the Wellsboro & Corning RR was included in the RailAmerica acquisition and has reportedly gotten it's first EMD (SD40-3?) in GWI colors.

Caught the Commonwealth Railway part of the family operating their new double track line in eastern Virginia. #444 and #2090 are doing the work today. Is there an on line roster for the G&W family? I know it would be a bear to keep up to date. I ask because #2090 is a new comer to the area to me.

I did a quick search of photos for the OTV, and what an interesting collection of older Geeps they run! It looks like RailAmerica robbed their heavier power for an Ohio operation, but that's fairly standard for these conglomerates. Since they are pretty isolated, I wouldn't count on any big changes coming. Ethanol is a dying fad, as the new complex in Camilla GA recently closed, and with the coal plant leaving, there's little incentive to invest in new power.

ChessieMike,

Nice catch on the Commonwealth units. As for a roster, the southern region is in a frenzy right now. Motive power doesn't stay in the same place for even a few days, and 2 to 3 units will come on and leave the property in the same week. I'd love to have a roster, but I'm sure even the mechanical department is even scratching their heads trying to keep up.

Power in the CCH Columbus GA yard. 3349 and 3348 are SD40-2's, and the 2015 was formerly BAYL 509, long assigned to the GSWR out of Dawson, and was often paired with the 508 on the road trains interchanging with NS in Albany.

GSWR 3802 on the HAL Singletary siding with a cut of cars for interchange. This is the only unit left with the former owners paint scheme on the property.

The Albany turn rolls through Cuthbert, GA eastbound to Dawson with the 3802, BAYL 510, and BAYL 2012 on point. Long hood forward is alive and well in south Georgia.
