Does anyone have any valid information concerning the activity of the NY&LE in Cattaraugus, NY or on any other part of their line?

Check out the Regionals and shortlines message forum.  Click on western NY shortlines.  There is much more info to be found there.  FYI NY&LE just refreshed their web site and are taking reservations for Fathers day steam excursion from Gowanda to Dayton for chicken BBQ.

Thats right.  You have to call for info on excursions.  Just wanted to make note of the small change since the web site for NY&LE has been the same for years.

What a shame... Is this the end of passenger ops on the NY&LE, or are they still using that old Alco S series switcher?

Even though I lived very close to this line growing up, I only ever looked over the right of way once, back 6 or 7 years ago. I never had a chance to see any operations on it.

No, they still run passenger trains for special occasions.

They use their S2 for freight service which is a shadow of what it used to be.

Minor correction: the switcher is an Alco S1. She is an ex-Erie/EL unit- #308.

Catt. Co. IDA’s shortline railroad seeks rehabilitation funds

Cattaraugus County Industrial  Development Agency (IDA) officials and its shortline railroad operator will meet with a Buffalo engineering firm on Friday to discuss a tie replacement program application.

Corey Wiktor, IDA executive director, said he and Robert O. Dingman Jr., president of the New York & Lake Erie Railroad (NYLER), plan to meet with officials at C&S Engineering, Buffalo, to begin an application for state Department of Transportation rail funding. The application is due at the end of this month.
