Yesterday, Atlas announced they are doing a special edition HO scale model of SLR 550, due in May 08.  Too bad the real one is long gone.

   Guys,

Yesterday, Sunday morning,11/18/07, I got the surprise of my life!! Pete Bialecki, owner of the Buckingham Central RR and I had to go into an area of Ft. Myers that I useually don't frequent. But Pete does work as a machineist in that very section of the town every day. So he wanted to show me what the RR was doing.
The reason I mention this is because I saw, for here in Ft. Myers, a major track relocation in progress. I sure did'nt expect to see this, so I did'nt have my camera with me.
A really good chunck of the original 1904 railroad is being moved to the east about fifty feet or so. It is being done in order to straighten and align Evans Avenue. This particular street has had a number of breaks and jogs in it for the last thirty eight years that I've lived here. The ROW broke the street alignment in at least three
different places.
I'll try to get a few snaps of this work in progress. Or perhaps someone else already has the pics. Just thought this might be of some interest to a few here.

   Take care,

   Bruce

   Fellas,

Here are a hand full of pics I took today. I'll try to describe what I think is going on.
But, no matter what I think, it sure is GOIN ON.

First view is south toward where Evens Ave used to jog. Original ROW on the right.
That is where Evens Ave will end up.

still looking north. the south leg of the 1904 "wye" which led to the passenger station and a small yard. which was just two city streets from the downtown area.
Evens Ave, will come right through here on the old ROW. Don't know what is going to happen to the "wye".

looking north east here. the original curve with the north leg of the "wye" going to the west. this is MLK Bld. was Anderson Ave. State Road #82. original ROW on a rather high embankment. brand new trackage to the right. I'm standing sort of mid way between "wye" legs on the west side of the origianl line.

a bulkhead flat on the south "wye" leg just unloaded. new ties piles all over the place. high side gon on the north leg of the "wye" being loaded with all kinds of "old" railroad iron with a magnetic crane.
