A half century ago, EL's beloved Phoebe Snow made its final run. The event was commemorated in the Binghamton area this past Saturday, as per:

TOWN OF UNION (WBNG) -- Transportation enthusiasts celebrated railroad history in the Southern Tier on Saturday.

The Susquehanna Valley Railway Historical Society held an event called, ‘Railway Memories from the Southern Tier’ at the Riverdale Banquet Hall.

It's to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of service for the Erie Lackawanna Rail Road's Phoebe Snow passenger train.

The railroad ran from Hoboken to NYC and then as far as Buffalo from the1940s through the 1960s. The Phoebe Snow used anthracite coal. The mascot for the train 'Phoebe Snow,' had a white dress to show that passengers could enjoy a ride and not have to worry about getting dirty from the smoke.
