My guess is somewhere along the Delaware River, west of Port Jervis.  Closer scrutiny needed.

A strong clue in the station, shown near a mile distant. Check 'net for photos of Erie stations.
There are views of similar appearing buildings, but evidently unique to one (possibly more) sites.
Current available topo maps help, too.

Here, your writer will go out on a limb, so to suggest the instant Photos from long ago at Rutherford NJ.
The ridge lines of the distant hills help here.

Not sure why the photos turned upside down.  Here’s a larger version.

Image exceeds display size of 900 pixels wide. (150774 bytes, 1600x1200 pixels)

TKS for larger image. Nevertheless, it can't correct for quality. But, it the limits of movie filming
of the period. To aid some more, the current NJ Transit service maps and schedules help, too.

For right now, your writer's conjecture of Rutherford might be close. The hills in the background
useful and bothersome. Compare: On the old B & O, it had hill climbing between a point near
Frederick, MD and McKeesport, PA. With B & O, once it passed the area, it more running flat
country between New Castle, PA into Akron, OH and beyond westward. The hills in your Photo
indicate the same range of low mountains.
