Speaking of power shortages and what not........

Is it bad that you can't even get your own EMDs to run a train. Taken the same day the circus train rolled up to Charleston on the West Virginia Secondary. Not too often we get one of these EMD veterans up here. BNSF 1967 leads NS 380 south along the Secondary at Nitro, WV.

Even better when CSX decides to slap one on a local. H701 rolls west towards South Charleston, WV with a former Louisville & Nashville SD40-2 going solo.

Always nice to see one or two of them showing these high powered AC units how to get the job done. Heading west for Russell, Kentucky, CSX freight train Q303 is seen heading west through Kenova, WV with two old workhorses dragging some dead General Electrics around.

I don't know what exactly is better. Seeing veteran EMDs leading high powered AC units on coal trains or seeing this shoving a work train of all things. One of NS' "new" SD40-2s shoves a work train west along the Christiansburg District towards Radford as it passes through Walton, Virginia.

These are just some of the few SD40-2s that I've seen this year.

The 8856 came into Keyser as part of the power for a train load of Ballast, it and the pair of SD50-2 have been sitting shut-down while the crews use the Slug-Set to spread the ballast - 16 October 2015

Not an SD40-2.  It seems that this old girl might have skipped a class.

MobilGrain SD40-3 3138 warming up at the east end of the Last Mountain Railway yard at Aylesbury, SK.  November 7, 2014.  I have had the pleasure of riding in and operating this engine.  I would like to have a dollar for every mile that has passed under her fuel tank.

** from Don's rail photos - "3138, SD40-3, was built by General Motors in May 1969, #A2347, as CN 5088, Class GF-30e, SD40. It was retired on May 5, 1998, and rebuilt by Alsthom in December 1998 as KCS 6600, SD40-3. It was renumbered 3128 and renumbered 3138. It was sold as MGLX 3138 in July 2011."

I saw my last two SD40's for 2014.  An ex-SOO 6613 and a good old CP 5900 series.  No photo this time.
