Oh what I would give to see NS paint a new GE locomotive in the lightning stripes! Definetly not out of the question!

IMO, this will be a good thing for the former D&H... given NS's penchant for well-maintained ROWs and higher track speeds.

NS is starting to run trains using their own symbols on the former D&H, as per several  Facebook groups.

NS has added a couple more trains to the D&H- 287 (westbound) and 14T (eastbound) are auto rack trains. Also D&H #7303 has been spotted in the Scraonton-Wlkes Barre area in recent days.

D&H #7304 has also been spotted in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area. Now is a good time to get those shots, because the 2 lightning striped GP38-2s will leave the area (and likely be repainted) when NS takes over.

Yes, NS 14T and 287 look to be permanent additions to the D&H. I don't know if any extra trains have been added to the Sunbury Sub.

The NS acquisition of the D&H has been approved by the STB and will take effect on 6/15/2015. Read the STB's decision here:

CP is relinquishing all trackage rights on former Conrail trackage when NS takes over the D&H next month. Among other things, CP/NS interchange will move to Mohawk Yard. Mixed freights 38T and 39T will be abolished. These trackage rights date back to the creation of Conrail in 1976.

A reliable source has said that the transition will be 1500 (3 PM EDT) on Friday the 18th. D&H #7303 is still in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area as of this evening.

The final runs of 38T and 39T will probably be tomorrow. There was a 38T run today, while 39T was annulled.

From http://www.nscorp.com earlier this week:

Quote:
As previously announced, the Surface Transportation Board has granted approval for Norfolk Southern to purchase certain portions of the Delaware & Hudson Railroad.  As a result, NS will begin to operate these lines at 12:01am on Saturday, September 19, 2015.  In order to prepare for this, D&H will cease all operations on the impacted lines effective 5:00pm Friday, September 18th  through 12:00am Saturday, September 19th.  All train operations will experience a complete shutdown during this time until rail operations are systematically brought back online.

Most of the road freights (i.e. non-locals) that operate on the Southern Tier Mainline will be affected- as they operate to, from or through Binghamton.

It should also be noted that 38T did not run today. One more run of 39T is expected later tonight or early tomorrow. Also, D&H #7303 operated on CP local D11 today. The GP38-2 should leave the Scranton area tomorrow for the final time.

A reliable source has discovered #7303 is in the engine house at Binghamton, waiting for a train to take her up to Mohawk Yard.

Also, 38T and 39T might not be dead yet. NS did run 38T last night. The train is currently tied down on the Erwin runner while NS and CP sort out the details of the new haulage agreement.
