From the other direction looking north. I couldn't shoot from the platform since it is now hidden by trees.

The biggest change for me was to visit WC cabin and compare how things were in the 70's. WC cabin was located north of Carbondale yard. It was where the north entrance to the yard was located. As I found out recently an Erie branch also left at this point and crossed the Lackawanna river to service breakers by the O&W yard.

Here is what is looked like in the 70's. Wish I could go back to that day.

Even though it was in place during the mid 70's, I never saw yard lead used. It was always rusted and the signals were live.

Then: looking north toward WC from the yard lead. WR-1 8/24/77

The North Yard lead looking south toward Carbondale. This is where I saw my first D&H train as a teen.

There was also a steel company siding off of this, but I also never saw it in service in the 70's.

Then: CX1 8/24/77 U33 760.

At WC you could really see the grade begin. You can see the old road grade crossing that existed before the overpass was built in the left lower corner. A trolley line also crossed over head years ago.

To the left you can also see the North yard lead.

Now: You can see the old road crossing and a piece of the yard lead.

The tracks stop right under the overpass. - sad

Times have changed in Carbondale, but I am glad that DL is once again running through to the old yard site.

Regarding your last picture- is the D-L going to revive this spur?

Great photo's guys!

Wish I had been there before the yard closed down.

The last time I went through the yard a few weeks ago the gas company yard looked like it was busy and cars were spotted on the sidings. Hopefully the DL will see more business on the line.

That picture is right before the Route 171 overpass and the track shown should be the Penn Division at the point where the rail is pulled out. There was a switch and spur that went into the building which would be behind the picture. This section probably will never see any activity as it is beyond the yard where the new activity is. From this point on there is no rail.
