Growth has really narrowed it here. The railroad bed cuts between several ponds and swamps. We spotted hatched turtle eggs and several adult turtles.

Just after emerging from the swamp areas we spotted Mile Post A157-20 The numbers were not readable. A ghostly mark of an "S" is seen in this one.

We are now in Ararat near the staging area and the "wye" You would never think there was 5 sets of tracks here plus a "wye"

At first we had no idea what this was, but it turns out to be the roof of a large culvert exposed. At the time the picture was taken, it was mostly blocked up.

At the north end of the yard, this white building housed a motorcar that would do track inspections. It was filled with junk and garbage so we couldn't see the interior.

Another view of the Ararat area. This was not the best time to explore with all the growth. So we returned to the area at a better time.

Back in 2008 we returned before the growth came back. As we approach Ararat again, we spotted this rail off to the right.

This lineside pole still has its original numbers. In the summer, this would not be seen at all.

Now as we approach the same area, you can see the railbed widen out.

The large culvert has been worked on to clear it. We saw signs that water did some real damage in the area and work is being done to control it.

The building can be seen much better without all the growth. It shows signs of serious damage. The junk inside has not yet been cleared.

This trench is to try to control water erosion.

In doing so, some old rail was exposed. These would be from the far side tracks just north of the Wye area.

Now to try for the wye. This one is badly grown in and very hard to see. Only with the help of GPS data could it be found. This is the start of the north leg of the wye.

It does clear out a bit here. The thorn bushes did not make this fun!

This is the south leg of the wye, very grown in and not fun to walk it!  The south leg emerges out near the large culvert where work was done so the connecting point is erased.

Now moving on past Ararat (and going back to 2006) the railbed is narrow.
