Im hearing alot of railfan talk about the CN trying to get the EJ&E! Again this is just a lot of railfan talk, and they are also saying part of the deal would give BLE to USS, plus a cash deal... Nothing on any offical web site for both companys just alot of talk.

Hopefully the EJE orange locos will still be plying the rails outside of the steel works.  I've been to Chicago several times over the past couple years and love seeing the J in action.

Anyone know whether CN will be leaving the EJE as is or are they planning to fully swallow it up (repaining motive power, etc.)?

Well, the CN is only after the belt around CHI town. The J is staying intact as a switching company. Mostly working the Gary works. Im sure others can give you more detail.... The main line is gone, and I dont know if CN is taking any motive power. I doubt they will seeing SD38s arent the Class1s mainline idea! Anybody know how many 38's are on the J?

I live a half mile from ej&e's Joliet yard and I have been watching the changes over the past 2 or  so years. Sadly the diesel shops, roundhouse and other structures have been razed. The ej&e yard Switchers are gone (cn road power & ej&e sd-38's do the switching now). And on a positive note double track is in the process of being restored south of Joliet yard, I'm not sure how far out its being restored though. Rail traffic has definitely increased too.

This is of #654(I think because the number board is kind of blurry) on yard duty in July of this year.
