CSX Clearing Brush on former Western Maryland Tracks - By YeOldeEnjine on 11/30/16 at 23:15:45 - 'Ztrackhoe01.jpg' 190 KB
Over the weekend CSX moved a tracked hoe to 21st. Bridge Road crossing. On Monday the 28th. CSX started clearing brush and trees from the long abandoned Western Maryland Trackage at that location.

At 21st. Bridge Road, Chessie had established a connection from the former B&O mainline to the former WM tracks that were part of the WM's Thomas Subdivision. All WM tracks east of this connection was pulled up shortly afterwards.

Last used for hopper car storage in the early 2000's this section of tracks to MP 23.0 was taken out of service when the switch was lifted connecting the trackage to the CSX main.

The photo was taken on the crossing for Green Mile Farm Road looking RR east towards the CSX Main - 28 November 2016

Officially a Chessie photo because of the "Enchantment Blue" C&O and B&O engines (among other reasons), this Midwestern town is known for the newspaper owned by an ex-President, and its role in the building of the Panama Canal and Saturn V rockets.

How about this one? If you can get a handle on where this is, you'll learn that this city played a role in the Civil War spy game, the Underground Railroad, and railroad labor unrest! The Cabin shown here may be closed, but the railroad is still open for business.

Well, clearly, nobody else besides Henry and I know where we are....So if Henry doesn't mind, I will reveal -

We are in Sidney, OH, and attached is a photo of the Big Four/NYC bridge I was talking about, it even has a restaurant named after it - LINK URL !
(kind looks like a smaller DL&W Tunkhannock Viaduct, doesn't it?)

Funny thing is, today CSX trains use this bridge, as they got that part of Conrail in the merger.....I'm not sure if the original B&O line is now abandoned or not.

Hey Cat People, time for a new GTL!

Named for an English poet, and known for it's huge Big Four viaduct, this B&O town in Ohio apparently attracts US Presidents, as Roosevelt, Regan and Bush have all stopped here.

Well gentlemen, the above photo IS Youngstown, OH....Me thinks the bard Springsteen took a bit of poetic licence, as in researching the lyrics, I see that the Heaton/Eatons (see - LINK URL ) began thier enterprise in what later became Struthers Ohio (see - LINK URL ,_Ohio)....Regardless of B&O's arrival to the area, the forge in question served munitions for the War of 1812, so there's that.............The photo credit reads as - Center St Jct., Youngstown, OH circa 1979....Photo by RA Durfee by way of RP.net

I photographed SD40 #8438 (ex-WM 7596) in the full CSX scheme with WM sublettering in Baltimore in both 1988 and '89 -- so there was at least one diesel.  It's entirely possible that some freight  cars carried CSXT logos with WM reporting marks, since integrating the fleet was a drawn-out process, and the old reporting marks were carried until the car number was changed.
Here she is at Riverside being serviced on Feb. 24, 1990.

Cool site loved it.I have a GP-38 model of a chessie numbered 4810 and from what it indicated was that the real 4810 was never painted in the chessie scheme.I did not know that. All in all I still love that chessie scheme. Now it looks like my mission is to create a B&O 4810 and put it on display. Thanks for sharing the site.Sorry the pic is not the best. Also this is just a generic model. No details have been applied as of yet.

Last one.  I apologize for the focus on this one.  I tried 6 or 7 times.  Since it's behind glass, I have to take the shot at an angle, and I guess it messes up the auto focus.

Chessie System/Erie Lackawanna Rare Artifact - By Jim-Go on 07/09/06 at 22:26:30 - 'IMG_1552.jpg' 126 KB
Hi folks.  About a year ago I bought a batch of E/L documents from a seller on E-Bay.  When the person shipped it, he included a special bonus item.  It was an Erie Lackawanna calendar from the year 1976.  I unrolled it, took a quick look at it, and saw what appeared to be someone's actual hand drawn art of the Chessie Kitten napping on the upper right edge of the E/L diamond at the top of the calendar.

The calendar/poster had creases from being rolled up for God knows how long.  So I unrolled it and stuck it between my mattress and forgot about it for about a year.

Last week (7/5/06) the local art store advertised a sale on poster frames.  When I saw the ad, I suddenly remembered the calendar.  So I took it out for a minute to measure it, and stuck it back in the mattress (safe from my 2 year old son).   Today when I took it out to mount it in the frame, I finally got a close look at the Chessie Kitten "drawing".  Much to my amazement, I noticed it wasn't a drawing, but an actual part of the print artwork.

Now, I do know for a while there, the E/L was in negotiations to become a part of the Chessie System.  And as we know, that didn't happen, and of course they merged into Conrail.  But it's quite incredible to think that somewhere in the E/L, someone believed they were going to become a part of Chessie System, so much so that they had the calendars done up.

I'll upload 3 pics of the whole calendar/poster in the frame, the logo framed up, and the kitten close up.  By the way, the 2 color pics of the Bicentennial SD-45's, I printed and added to the top myself.

Well, for me when I first started paying attention to what pulled the train, most all I saw on the eastend (Peninsula subdivision) were U30Bs & B30-7s.  It was that way for a number of years then slowly the GP40s & GP40-2s started to take over.

This last one is of a westbound train passing Prince, WV, on the C&O in October, 1980.  My office at that time was in the east end of the Prince depot.  The classic C&O wooden tower is the abandoned NI Cabin which stood for quite a while until the CSX cleanup campaign a few years later – beyond that is a clear signal to enter the single track and Stretcher’s Neck tunnel.  The track curving off to the left is the Piney Creek Subdivision that goes up to Raleigh, WV, and beyond to Glen Daniels Junction.
