Friday I was able to catch some CSX action on the Fitzgerald Sub in Cordele, GA. This single track mainline runs from Manchester, GA to Waycross, GA and runs around 50 trains a day according to several sources. In downtown Cordele is an interlocking with the NS GS&F District and Heart of Georgia (HOG) Railroad. The combined train count at this junction is over 70 a day.

I intercepted this southbound and was surprised to not only see the Diversity engine as the lead unit, but snow on the pilot. Record low temperatures have been lingering around south Georgia lately, but seeing snow was definitely unexpected.

The train stopped at the interlocking to wait for the signal to time out as the HOG local had just crossed minutes prior. This gave me time to get to the east end of town to catch it passing by the Cordele siding.

Another unusual catch for the day had a southbound CSX grain train clearing the Cordele interlocking. Ordinarily not out of pace, but seeing a signal maintainer on the mast makes for a memorable shot.

The CSX Cordele local waits for track time in downtown while the HOG local does some interesting switching on their connection track.

Crude oil train K080-03 making the run along the Kanawha Subdivision this morning with BNSF 4754 leading a Dash 8 Wide Cab as it heads for Yorktown, Virginia. This after the train spent four days setting up in Northern Indiana due to the snowstorm and the extreme cold.

About 20 minutes later, Amtrak's eastbound Maple Leaf passed under the same pedestrian bridge where the previous were taken.

Good catch on the oil train. I have as yet to see one in daylight. They seem to be coming east with the BNSF power staying on and have also had NS units in the mix. On the Ex-C&O it is still the same; loads east, empties west. I caught E503-16 westbound near Williamsburg, VA on 1/16/14 at 1346Hrs with #80 & #170 leading the way.

Good catch. Man, did I want that one! Inbound, it got to Yorktown before sun up. No problem, I'll break out the flash. Uh, that don't work well in the FOG!.

Nice job, Lfire and Mike!

I spent sometime next to CSX's Chicago Line at the local Amshack last weekend. Amtrak's eastbound Lake Shore Limited was running quite late when I arrived.

Yes, it was the CSX Chciago Line.. but most of the action was Amtrak. The final sighting for the day was the westbound Amtrak Maple Leaf, with a phase III heritage unit for power.

CSX train E502-29 is westbound at CA16 on the Peninsula Sub. The pull will get easier as the train leaves the snow behind. #825 leads #7333 on 1/29/14.

Anyone near Clearwater, FL know when freight goes by Old Coachman Rd//The Long Center//Brighthouse Field?? I used to live in Orlando (for college) and was down the street from Taft and miss my daily does of diesel
Now I'm home and I know *something* still runs thru here but no clue on the times. Sadly my house is too far from any track.

K080-17 Oil Train rolls past one of the soon to be gone C&O signals at Lee Hall, VA. This train seems to do a good job of keeping the foreign power on the point. CP #9512, a CW44AC leads BNSF #9108, a SD70ACe at 1534Hrs on 2/20/14.

Just a few miles east of Lee Hall, VA the train leave the main line for the short trip down the Amoco Branch to unload the Texas Tea (from North Dakota). They need to come to a stop to throw the switch and I was able to get there in time to get a better shot of the power.
