Since this is the “sightings” thread for CSX, I am issuing the challenge for the first 3000 series locomotive sighting. The latest ES44ACs should be in the 3000’s…. Oh and just like fishing you need a least a pic to prove your catch

L038, the northbound "Threads Express" intermodal, has just arrived at Charlotte on this February day. Intermodal ramp expansion work is in progress.

Yes, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Blue Unit train. It was making the move from Norfolk, VA to Hampton, VA. The route was NS west from Norfolk to Petersburg, switch to CSX, north to Richmond, VA and then back east on the old C&O. Look on a map and you will understand why the 150 mile route to make a 20 mile as the crow flies move.

Wow... that is a roundabout route! I saw some photos of this train on NS rails on another message board, so I wondered how it wound up on CSX. Now I understand. Thanx!

I spent some time at Chili Junction last month. For those of you not familiar with this area, it is where the West Shore Bypass meets the CSX Chicago Line. My most recent visit was about 11 days ago. The evening started out with an interesting meet involving a unit tank train and Amtrak's westbound Empire Service.

The next CSX train to cross Attridge Road was this eastbound intermodal. It came through just minutes after the tank train cleared.

The final train I saw at Chili Junction that evening was an eastbound stack train that went down the West Shore Bypass.

The following weekend, I went out to greater Buffalo for a concert. There was sufficient time to catch some CSX action at Bayview Road, starting with this eastbound intermodal freight.

The next two trains were eastbound and westbound freights that met at the ex-NYC signal bridge east of Bayview Road.

I'll round out this trip with a shot of MP 532 and one more westbound intermodal freight on the Chicago Line at Bayview Road:

The new 3000 numbered series are out!

I was sitting Tuesday Morning 5/2/12 at the fuel pad (east end of the Collinwood Yard) (Cleveland Ohio) when a westbound freight came through at about 8:30 a.m.

There were three of them--3001, 3004 and 3005.   They were dark blue, yellow nose, and large CSX yellow logo across the hood doors.

They were gorgeous! I especially liked how clean and new and black the drivetrain (wheelsets) were on each.

Their engines were running (heat was coming from their respective stacks) but there were three older units in front of the new ones at the head of the train.

I later went back and on my bike sat on top of the E.152 st. bridge that crosses the west end of the yard-and those new units were still in the yard in the same train-parked across from the main yard office building.

(Sweet-I've been documenting all the shiny new awesome White/Black/Orange/Silver BNSF's that have been coming out of Erie and through Cleveland too!)

I really need to get a camera. . . . .
