The last train of the evening was this eastbound manifest freight.

Rain started to fall again as the eastbound mixed freight passed.

The eastbound CSX freight passes the parked freight. The rainfall became much heavier shortly after this shot, so I decided to head to Spencerport for supper.

A standard cab GP40-2 leads H775-25 eastbound on the Peninsula Sub at CA 26.
To think this was at one time the absolute most common power on this end of the C&O. I canít remember the last time I saw one all alone.

In all my years of railroading I have no idea what this unit is... You have my curiosity.

In simple terms it contains a radio receiver that is used to control a locomotive(s) connected to it through the MU cables. It also gives an area for a person to ride safely. With this they would not need to install radio gear in locomotives. Any locomotive could be connected to this and become a remote control unit. There seems to have been some problems in them being accepted and also a difference of opinion as to whether it should be considered a "car" or a "locomotive" when it needs repairs. I will defer to any others for additional information as it has been a while since I last heard about these "units".

To add to the remote control platforms, they proved to had issues with derailing as well. Crews would tend to but them between the loco and a heavy cut of cars and pop off they would come. They seemed to be short lived on CSX.

That's what I thought when I first saw the picture of them. Without some additional frame support and added weight like on a slug it would be a bad idea to use them in many applications. Thanks for the info, ChessieMike and Towny.
