Caught B012-09, a rail train, in Newport News, VA on 1/9/11. He had been putting rail down on the Peninsula Sub. I hope to catch him in action.

Here we have G855-14, a westbound grain train. #471 a CW44-AC leads #4794 a SD70MAC on the Buckingham Branch Railroad at Peakes, VA at 1105Hrs. on 1/15/11. While the tracks are exC&O, CSX has leased them to the BBRR but still runs trains over them.

I haven't really done that much railfanning since the new year started. When I have, I've gotten some old power at least.

Dubya Ought Ate Teen Oh Five with the 6427 leading. This train may have been heading for the Peninsula Sub as well.

Had the chance to get CSXT 701 and its K5LA two weeks ago as well. If you ask me, the K5LA sounds better on the GEVOs than what the K5HL does.

Here we find CSX #4794, a SD70MAC, on a ballast train on 3/2/11. There has been a lot of track work happening on the east end of the Peninsula Sub lately. New rail, ballast, ties, and even power switches. They are also working on replacing at least some of the old C&O signals. I keep hearing double track is going to return to some of the places that were single tracked in the 70s, but Iíll wait and see on that one.

There doesn't seem to be much love for poor CSX this year, so let me change that. †

My first expedition to Chili Junction (for the year) was just 3 evenings ago. I stepped out of my car shortly after 6 PM and was greeted by the horn of an eastbound train going through Churchville. It arrived at Attridge Road just a few minutes later.

I'd noticed a freight train stopped further east on the Chicago Line, so it was no surprise when CSX routed the eastbound mixed freight down the West Shore Bypass at Chili Junction.

There was a surprise, though. A blaring horn from westbound freight alerted me to a meet, which I saw at the Attridge Road crossing.

Photo taken by me Saturday 3/19/2011 in Riga, NY. The BNSF power was a nice bonus, too.

Westbound auto racks are on the far track and eastbound stack spines are on the near track.

The westbound train seemed to be moving faster than the eastbound train. The westbound freight may have been shorter, too... because the tail end cleared Attridge Road while a substantial portion of the stacks had yet to pass me.

A fellow railfan stopped at Attridge Road during the meeting of the two trains. His car was parked near the ROW as train #3 approached.

As with the previous eastbound freight, CSX routed train #3 down the West Shore Bypass.

Train #4 also had a set of matched CNW hoppers at the end, for added interest.

The fifth and final train of the evening was this westbound freight, which also featured BNSF power.

Train #5 was a unit tank train, which I often saw on Saturday evenings last year.

Photo taken by me Saturday 3/19/2011 in Riga, NY. †The sun was sinking and shadows were growing long, so idecided to leave shortly after the train passed. Five trains crossed Attridge Road in almost exactly one hour- which was a nice outing for me.

It has been a while since I have seen one of these out on the road. CSX local, H773-25 shoves its train down the Amoco Branch with #2233, Rd Slug (exGP30) and #6461, GP40-2m. I'm wishing it was a real GP30, but glad they did not destroy the looks when they made the conversion.

I spent a very frigid day in at Buffalo Creek Junction at the end of last month. This is an eastbound CSX intermodal freight emerging from under the Tifft Street bridge.
