I remember when the Locals were where you found the GP38s, GP40s, and 40-2s. Here we have some big power in local service. CW60AC #648 is pushing its train, H773-15, on the Amoco Branch at 1318hrs on 7/15/10.

Engine #s 5009 and 4739 take an empty train up to the loadout at Decota on the C&O's former Cabin Creek Subdivision. This train had the literal run around earlier in the day as no one realized that it had gotten past its destination until it was thirty miles west of where it was supposed to go. Not to mention the fact that the speed limit on the entire Cabin Creek Sub is ten miles per hour.
CSXT 5009

Most of you folks may not know this, but Q698 & 699 have returned to prowl on the former C&O main through Central West Virginia. This being due to curfews on the L&N through central Kentucky.
Q699-16 with 150 cars
Q699-16 West at Marmet

Was out on Wednesday when Q699-19 popped up heading south, timetable west, through town. Power for this train consisted of CSXT 7692, CSXT 42, & CSXT 8315.
Q699-19 on the CSXT 7692
Q699-19 West

One of the great things about Buffalo Creek Junction is being able to see multiple trains at once. In this case, we can see an eastbound CSX intermodal (same train as the last photo), a CSX local and a Buffalo Pittsburgh local on the bridge in the background.

In a few places, I can still see an end cab switcher handling local service on a Class 1. The train at right is powered by a CSX SW1500. As I recall, this unit has been in the Buffalo area for most of its life, having been built for Penn Central around 1972.

The CSX local diverges from the Chicago Line (mainline) and heads down a branchline that was once a part of the Lehigh valley RR.

Here's a contribution from my fledgling train photography attempts....at the Ohio River bridge, Henderson, KY, in June. One of my all-time favorite places to watch trains (and barge traffic too).

Haven't been trackside in months, but was returning home from camping in Delaware today and grabbed this quick shot from the car.

CSX 6249 (ex-B&O 4350, GP40-2, built 1979) on B&O home rails at Chester Pa on the Philly Sub.

Some days, the most interesting person you meet is a river with a train running beside it.
