Taken a second or two after the one above, you can see our train in the siding, a 266, with six units on the point.  Included were CP 9810 (AC4400cw), CEFX 124 and UP 8240 (SD90mac), CP 6068 and 5911 (SD40-2, 5911 still has the large multimark), and CP 9515 (AC4400cw).

Here's one from last July at Coal Mountain, or the ghost town of Corbin, BC.  This is a "mini", a short 16 car coal train for one of the smaller customers of Elk Valley Coal, either Exshaw, Ashcroft, or TechCominco in Trail, BC.

Hi,

I see from reports that CPR had a derailment near Yahk BC on Sunday (09-25-2005) involving some Potash cars, this follows the one on the same line in May at Tochty in which a number of grain cars derailed spilling the load. I saw these, being on vaction from the UK at the time, and tried to take a shot from the moving car, but my wife was driving at the time! I did take some photos (not that good as taken on video camera - sorry) by the grade crossing at Yahk and was surprised to see the state of the track. Perhaps this explains two derailments in 6 months. I have uploaded 3 of the photos I took. Take care Mark J if you're working on that line.

Regards,

Ken, in sunny Whitstable UK looking out on mainline (London to Ramsgate) but seeing nothing but Class 375 EMU (or "plastics" as the railfan faternity call them).

Those 377XXX were cool little hoppers, you are right, there are still two around anyway at the Cominco plant in Warfield right beside the public road at the end of the chemical unloading spur.  There used to be a string of those on every train to Nelson along with the CN version from Pine Point.

Here a few shots I took of a train I was on last may.  The train was a unit ballast train on the way back to the pit at swansea, something like 85 empty (well half empty anyways) ballast hoppers if my memory serves me correctly.  On our way down the hill from Crowsnest we stopped to lift 25 empty machine flats on the headend.

Here we are setting those machine flats off for the steel gang in G33 within Cranbrook cautionary limits.  This is where the Tembec (Crestbrook Forest Industries) sawmill is in town.

This one is of us pulling off the main into G33 through the crossover near the sawmill crossing.

Power was SD40-2's 5924, 6003, 5708.

The next one is at the west end of G33, with G41 to the left, the old Kelly Douglas spur.  The mainline heading out of town I guess would be the center track.  The track to the far right (where the steel gang track units are) is where the yard occasionally spots up gonds to be loaded with scrap metal.

...and one more of us pulling into the yard on G1, showing the shop tracks and the power on hand that day.

Here is a close up of a UP SD90mac 8240 in the consist above from train 266, UP power is quite common on this corridor.
