Here we highball the clear indication of the advance ABS signal to Line Creek, the second coal mine on the sub.  The spur track switch is a locally controlled power switch.

This is the start of the climb up to Fording, ascending the grade of 1.8%.

I guess this is why they call it the Elk Valley, elk are very plentiful in this region.  The spur track to Line Creek is in the foreground.

A little further and we pass the Line Creek load out, the loop track is visible on the left.  The mine itself is actually quite a long way east of here (to the right in the pic).

This is where the bond is for the slide fence at mile 17.5, when you pass here the condition of the slide fence is broadcasted on the radio.  "CP slide fence mile 17.5 Fording River sub, slide fence normal.  CP slide fence mile 17.5 Fording River sub out"

Here is the slide fence itself.  As far as I've heard, it's only been tripped a few times but I suppose its just a matter of time until its tripped again as there is a large avalanche shute above here.

This is a shot taken just past the spur track switch for Greenhills, the third mine on the sub.  The spur track is to the left.  The mine silos are 2.5 miles west (left) of here.

We are now past the station name sign Fording, the end of main track.  This is the spur track to Fording load out silo, the end of the subdivision.

Pictured here is the massive mountain of over burden from the mine.  That little tiny speck on top of the pile is a huge caterpillar dump truck they use at the mines which has just finished dumping a load of dirt over the edge of the pile.

Having past under the silo with the head end and now loading coal at 0.45 mph, I took this one of the hoe that is used to adjust over/under loaded cars.  Passing over head is one of those dump trucks I mentioned earlier.

And finally here we are about to change off with another crew, engineer Kevin Johnson (no relation) with his bag waiting for the cab to show up.  At this point, around 1/3 of the train is loaded, the head end is now facing south.

That's it for now, hope you enjoyed your trip.
