"Red Barn" sitting at Broadview yard, May 1, 2009.  I've always liked the "deadly" look of these particular models in this paint scheme.

May 13, 2009.  It doesn't get much better than this!!  caught these five good old EMD/GMD's just leaving Broadview, SK yard east bound with a mixed train.  Pic quality isn't the best, as it was a dull morning and these engines were'nt lollygagging about, waiting to have their picture taken!!  Gotta love the sound of five 645's flat out!!

Leading the pack, one of my favorite models of "modern" engines....

4508 is a Phase 1 GP38-2 (two fans and air filter box say 38-series, sight glass says Dash 2, chicken-wire radiator says pre-Dash 2 or early Dash 2).

Fan of late and early Conrail... also transition-era PRR, 70s Santa Fe, BN and SP, 70s-80s eastern CN, pre-merger-era UP, heavy electric operations in general, dieselized narrow gauge, modern EFVM and Brazilian railroads in general, transition-era DB and DR... why bother trying to list them all?

May 12, 2009.  Sitting on the hill just east of Grenfell, SK, waiting for another train doing some work in town.  Sharp looking unit!!

May 12, 2009.  Okay, here we come.  Good old SD40 leads the pack eastbound out of Grenfell after shifting a few cars around.  Great to see these engines instead of GE's all the time.

Kjohn, always nice to see your collections of EMD mixes, good historic panorama of CP power you got out there.  It's also nice to see engine pictures from a prairie perspective, no mountains in the background!
Keep posting please...

On my way home from work tonght (May 15, 2009), I spotted this train coming out of Broadview eastbound.  The 9014 was sitting in the yard this morning, digesting her hay and oats.  Sounded good getting a mixed train up to speed!

On Friday evening (May 22, 2009), I noticed these two old pelters sitting out east of Moosomin, SK., facing west.  There seemed to be a part of a train still attached, but there were more cars after a split.  There were also three GP38-2's skulking around at the east end of the train.  Hmmm, better check this out.  I drove around to the south side of the tracks where the "old" Trans-Canada runs nice and close.  There was a shuttle van sitting at a crossing.  The driver sauntered over when he noticed me taking pics.  He asked if I was a train buff, or was this "official business".  ( I was in uniform and driving a marked patrol car!!)  I assured him I was a buff.  He explained that the train was westbound when the 5615 died and the 9021 got balky and wouldn't load.  That was the end of the journey.  He had driven a crew up to man a "rescue train".  The 3133, 3041, & 3131 backed on and eventually got under way.  Later on, I noticed as they were slowly making their way towards Moosomin, the 9021 was smoking, so they must have fiddled the right way.  I first noticed the train around 19:30, but they didn't get to Whitewood until just after midnight, only 30 miles away.  But they  did have speed up!  I don't know if they ever did get the 5615 running, but I could see they were trying when they were still east of Moosomin.  The shuttle driver told me there are a whole bunch of 9000's sitting dead at Winnipeg, for sale.  I fear their days are numbered.
