Hi there, I joined to get some information. I do renovations, and a tenant left an item behind. Im certian it has to do with railroads, and it's quite neat. i now have it hanging on my wall.

Can anyone identify it for me?

It might be something that's railroad related.  I can't identify what it would be there.  However, speaking as a Firefighter in snow country, it looks like a marker that we would have on our hydrants that mark their locations in the winter.

ahhh i see. yea that makes a little more sence. i know it looked familiar. however, where i am from the hydrants barly get covered. if the did get covered city workers clear the snow away. it must have originated else where?
