She, indeed, did have a lot of stripes through at least part of her carrier...

As far as the operation being rather obscure... this might be why the car, in another paint scheme, survived until at least 1964...

Brill chose not to build a single narrow gauge gas electric car for the East Broad Top, so the EBT bought the blueprints from Brill and built their own.  It is still a gas electric.

PRR 4666 was built as a gas electric in 1930 by JG Brill and was refitted with a diesel engine in 1942.

And 9152 at Temple.  This unit was used frequently on the Reading-Pottsville shuttle and on the Lansdale-Bethlehem shuttle.  Neither of these two cars run.  They were de-powered by MBTA, with only one engine used for "hotel" power, while in push/pull service with either an FP-10 or a Geep.

Here is a snap shot of one of a hand full of RDCs that the Seminole Gulf Railway owns here in Ft. Myers, Fl. None of them are self propell to the best of my knowledge. They are used for the excursion trains a number of times per week.
I believe one of the original bus engines is under each car, to keep the A/C working. Which is very important here in SW Florida. I'm not sure about the original owners of the cars, but some time back I thought I heard B&M.
Can someone shed some light on the origin of the Seminole Gulf RDCs.

   Take care,

   Bruce

Re: RDcC information required - By Pyronova on 01/05/05 at 05:44:05 - '6148southatChemainusBC.jpg' 364 KB
Hey there!

I am thinking your question is more of the european method of passenger disembarkment.....  where the passenger car(s) went into a building (or under a roof of some sort)....  is it not?

If this is the case,  hopefully someone out there can answer it!

If not, if you mean a track running up to/ beside a station, most Canadian railways were of this method, including stoping at any old tree, creek, whistle post or trestle where a passenger could/can "flag down" the train.

The attached picture is at Chemainus, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada at the beginning of November 2004.  There is only a shelter here (not in photo) with 2 benches and a roof.   For a schedule go to :  LINK URL

Every stop/station is an uncovered area beside the track.  The majority do not even have a passing track of any sort at this time.

What railway line are your Kato RDCs, if they are decorated, or do you have a particular area/railway you want to model?

Re: Budd RDC Pix - By ENR3870 on 04/11/02 at 19:58:53 - '6148a.jpg' 162 KB
Here's a picture of VIA 6148 when it was first delivered to the E&N. It's sitting in the yard,on one fo the old coach tracks, because wrecked VIA 6134 and 6135 were in the stalls. 6134 donated its undamaged end to 6135 which was put back in service, and the '48 became reserve power.

Interesting to note, the 6148 started life as a CP RDC2, number 9114, CP rebuilt it to RDC1 specs in the early 1960's when it was used on Commuter trains out of Montreal, renumbered to 9305. When VIA bought it in 1979, it remained 9305 until 1983 when it was overhauled to 6148. VIA put the reclining seats in it, added a snack bar, and put stainless steel paneling over the old baggage compartment door. 6148 is also the second RDC in VIA's RDC rebuild program that is going on right now.

I'm sure that most Budd RDC fans know this already, but I just wanted to assure you that 12 RDC-1s are in prime condition and servicing the folks of Dallas and Ft. Worth with full pride.  The operators enjoy driving them (one told me he prefers the RDC over the F59PHI) and the ride is very comfortable.

The cars ventured out quite a bid and other than being leased by Amtrak for Holiday overflow they were used by Trinity rail and others for short stints. as shown in this Don Ross picture at Irving Tx

Yes CDOT is using 10 No More Powered Vehicles (coaches ) in their Shoreline east Service from New Haven to Old Saybrook.
Those cars were always Connecticut Department of Transportation's but painted in Amtrak colors when they were self propelled.
the are now called Constitution liners

here is a picture of the rare outside swinghanger trucks as used on Jim's Roger Williams units at Danbury Railway Museum.
these trucks besides the spicer drive powered inboard axle use to have outboard axle powered by a Traction motor for Third Rail operation.

This photo was taken in 1976 on the former Central Railroad of New Jersey's "Bayonne West 8th Street"
Fot the most part, they were fun to ride in.  However, they smoked like a sun of a gun , leaked oil and fuel and were seldom to the clean-up shop.
I guess bankruptcy will do that to you.
 So this is my contribution!

Re: Budd RDC Pix - By ENRailway on 04/11/02 at 19:58:53 - 'Via6148a.jpg' 60 KB
