By-The-Way, When will the two trucks in Ringoes be converted to roller bearings. And is there a timeline to when they will be moved to P'Burg and the car moved to Ringoes??

When will the trucks be converted to roller bearings?....I don't know.

The goal is to have that done and get the car moved to Ringoes and back on its own trucks this year.

This project should be part of the discussion at this Saturday's members' meeting.  If you can go, I strongly urge you to do so. And consider joining!

Unfortunately I won't be in attendance....my wife's birthday + ballet in Hershey + I don't want to get kicked out = I go with my wife to the ballet instead of the railroad!

It appears that some much needed track work has been happening in Ringoes.

Is that all they are going to do??

The Black River and Western has obtained a nutter and will be replacing bolts on the tracks for the BRW system.

The BR&W did indeed recently acquire a nutter. It is in Ringoes and is in servicable condition.

Plans are still coming together, but the general idea is that this machine will be used by the Trust, along with our Fairmont crane, to replace/tighten track bolts on the BR&W. The BR&W has committed to purchase "as many bolts as we can replace".

This will be our first venture into actually working on the BR&W railroad infrastructure; we'll need some volunteers to make it work. Tightening/replacing bolts will not have a major immediate impact on "ride quality" on the railroad, but it will go a long way towards stabilizing the railroad and should make the ride at least minimally smoother.

There is a noticable difference between riding over a loose joint and a tight one.  Plus tightening the joints helps prevent pumping of low joints which causes wear on rails and ties.   Its good that the RR has a new nutter, and kudos to anyone who would volunteer to wrestle one up the line, becuase its no picnic.  It is an improvement over the alternative though.   Back in my day the new guy on the crew would be admonished to "take a wrench and start walking."

PS.     I hope the volunteers are instructed that the practice of torch-cutting bolt holes is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, as it makes the rail ends brittle and they break, and you'll be back unbolting that joint to change out the rail in no time.

Torch cutting of rail in any form or fashion should NEVER be done.   Not just holes, but any form of taking a cutting torch to a rail.  This is particularly true for old rail and high strength rail.  It does nasty things to the internal metalurgy and residual stresses.  Torching rail has been the cause in more than one broken rail derailment.

The engine house is finally being painted. Take a look at the progress.

Any update on the current color of the engine house or is it still pink primer?

How much equipment is south of Ringoes?

I know there is a coach and a hopper just south of Lambertville.

Thanks!

There are only 3 cars in Lambertville - the hopper and coach south of the station and a bag just north of the brewery.
