good news and bad news;

bad news- due to some minor items need to be looked at (i have no idea what so far) the work will have to be done over the fall and winter so 60 wont be able to run this year

good news- in spring of 2012, the railroad announced that 60 will OFFICIALLY chugging back on the rails for the first time in little over 10 years!!

all of this came from the BRRHT website

Hey Guys,

I dont mean to be pessimitic, but I dont think 60 will be running by this spring, or even this summer. Hoping for autumn 2012 might not even be hopeful.

I would love to see her run, she shouldve been running autumn 2011, but Techinal things got in the way. The FRA says shes Ok to roll, but our Cheif Mechanical Officer (CMO) wants to make sure everything is right, before they sign a piece of paper saying 60 is ok to go.

If I was in the CMO's shoes, I wouldnt want to sign for 60 unless I made sure everything was done right, and not have something go wrong so I could pay a some odd thousand dollar fine issued by the FRA.

Last I heard, we had a sweating staybolt, which had to be addressed, but now its turning into this whole deal where, if for example, The engineers seat has a rip in it we have to fix it....not as drastic, but similar, all the little things that have to be checked.

I dont mean to disapoint, but I would rather let everyone what is going on, so that when spring comes, everyone wont be as pissed off that shes not running.

On a more Positive note, I also have a video of 60s steam-up in July 2011.

We should be hearing something positive on 60 in the coming couple of weeks. The FRA is inspecting her once again before Memorial Day.

60 is privately owned by a principal in the railroad.

The CMO working on 60 is the same CMO that works on 142.  Last he told us was about 6 weeks (something had to be fabricated) and a few odds and ends.
That puts it in the latter half iof June.

When she is ready, the BRRHT will lease and operate.

I am happy to see steam return to this railroad.  I hope they can keep her running for a long time    and i hope to ride and chase her again.

Well, folks, #60 was fired up again yesterday - and ran yesterday - down to Flemington and Three Bridges - sounded great.  Hopefully they can sign off on her and start running her again.

I want to profusely thank the crews of the BR&W and BRRHT for their extremely kind hospitality, and generous access to areas along the line that normally I couldn't get to - with specific permission and under supervision, of course.

Very cool video, Jim!
I caught no. 60 at Ringoes on Friday, Oct. 19 travelling over the bridge in the rain.

LOL  While it looks like a going-forward runby, it was actually backing into place over the bridge.  The heavy rain, along with a troublesome coupler on the combine  , prevented the group from having a decent runby.  Instead, this static photo was offered.  I was the only one to brave going out into the road.
These are my first digital photos of 60 in action.  My last encounter with BR&W was when I still had my Beta camera.

60 operated every Sunday in December 2012 up to the 23rd.  She's in the shop now preparing for her annual boiler inspection by the FRA. And some minor work. We should see more of her in 2013!

Back on June 23, I was at the railroad for a special day to catch SW1 no 112 operating.  Here is 60 getting ready for an "ordinary" trip.

All steamed up and boarding people at the Ringoes depot.

ALCO built.  August 1937.

Time to go!  See you in an hour or so.

And we are back.  Great locomotive, Great railroad.  I am glad that steam is back.
