Locomotive #60 passed the FRA hydrostatic test today. I'm not associated with the BR&W but I would expect a fire up to follow sometime soon.

Good to hear, thanks for the update WH!

Does anyone know if the RR has been working on adding things a steam engine needs for operation like an ash pit, coal supply, water supply, etc? I recall hearing that had to be done again.

Just noticed this today...from the official website:

"Oct 19, 2010: #60 has officially passed her required FRA inspection! Preparations are underway for break-in runs on the BR&W."

Great news!!  Now the question is...when will those "break-in" runs happen...

Last time I checked the website, http://brrht.org/ there's no mention of the at all 60 now, at least that I could find.  Just a couple random old photos of the engine here and there.  Maybe 2012?

The steam page is still there, it's just hidden a little bit link-wise.  And there's no new updates on it.  When #60 is ready to go (and the BRRHT is ready to operate her) then announcements will be made in various places - don't worry, it will happen!!!

There should be some news to report in the next few weeks if everything falls into place.  Quite frankly the lack of updates is not to get anyones hopes up.  Like it or not we are a group of volunteers, most of us belong to the BRRHT.  #60 was not a BRRHT project, but a BR&W project, with manpower from the BRRHT.  Halfway thru the project a joint BR&W/NYSWTHS steam program put inplace and some aspects of #60s restoration were needed to be gone over again just to make others happy.  Not withstanding that the core volunteers usually spend 6-8 hours once or twice a week working on #60.  I understand some people here on the board got frustrated and left the project, so be it.   The BRRHT has taken over the Passenger operations from the BR&W, and we WILL use #60 when the BR&W says she is back in service.

Keep in mind when she is readly we plan on letting everone know, you wont be left in the dark.  Is there a chance she will be steamed up in May 2011 - YES.  Is there a chance she wont- YES.

The railroad is in great shape, regardles what the armchair track department thinks.  Brush has been getting cut all winter and Spring.  Regardless of Steam, 2011 will be a good year, so please support us.

Update 5-13-11.... a bad wheel bearing was found on one of the new (used) wheelsets last sunday while the wheel changeout was in progress. The wheelset has been sent back out, repaired, and has come back. It will be installed on sunday and the remate of engine and tender is scheduled for next weekend. We still hope to use #60 on opening weekend (memorial day weekend) but due to this unfortunate occurance we can not promise anything.
