Title: GN 1924
Post by Hawko on Jul 23rd, 2009, 10:18am
There is a former Santa FE SD 39 working at the BNSF Galesburg, IL Yard with the engine number GN 1924. This is the first time I have seen the BNSF re-number a locomotive with the initials from one of their predecessor railroads. Has anyone else seen any other engines re-numbered in this manner? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Here is a shot of the GN 1924 on or about the 25th of June 2009 at the BNSF Galesburg, IL Yard.

Is it possible BNSF has run out of numbers like UP did; and since the new BNSF paint is very GN esque; perhaps someone in management is a romantic at heart?

The GN 1914 behind the hump tower on the evening of August 2, 2009 at the BNSF Northtown (Minneapolis, MN) Yard. Like the GN 1924, the GN 1914 is also a SD39.

BNSF has ran out of numbers so some of the older emds are getting switched to GN numbers... on another note, there is currently a GN SW1500 getting painted in the old Big Sky Blue paint scheme in Topeka
