You may have heard about the recent interest in restoring the Amtrak Northcoast Hiawatha Route through SW Montana.  And some may have heard about BNSF securing Homestake Pass from trespassers.  I will try to keep posting the latest developments of both.  Check out these MT STD links.  This is most news/interest about Homestake that I've ever seen!

Looks like BNSF meant what they said.

Maybe they should fix Homestake and store cars on Mullan Pass instead!

Looks like parking spaces in Butte will be tougher to find soon!

Here are the maps of the Montana Division and the whole BNSF system.  Notice that the Copper City Subdivision is the only "island" in the system.  Montana Rail Link leases their territory from BNSF.

No, it's owned by Washington Corporation, a billion dollar company.  I really don't know how this tunnel project will play out, there's been a lot of trouble with that tunnel.  There was a dandy cave in in 1949 that sent all traffic through Butte for about 6 months I understand.  I just hope nobody gets hurt or worse in there.

Here are a few photos of detoured trains in 1970 shortly after the BN merger account of Mullan Tunnel problems.
