I just had to put this picture up here again in a larger size. I still like the old NP colors scheme.
Thanks

Here are the last of the Milw. Little Joe's. The pans are down for the last trip. I don't know if they were sold, scrapped or what. These were in the Deer Lodge yard.

Hello Again!
All I have to report today is that the Chief Executive of Butte told me that his office contacted BNSF about the future of Homestake Pass.  BNSF told them that at this time they have no plans to abandon the hill, or lease it to any party for the forseeable future.  That is good news that they aren't planning an abandonment!  I am sure that if Montana Rail Link was trying to get their trains through Butte, BNSF wouldn't let that news get out the door.  So we are now approaching 4 years of BN Link, and nothing earthshaking has happened since Montana Western's power was replaced with a rainbow of BN, Santa Fe, and BNSF locomotives.  But when news breaks, you can bet I'll put any tidbit on here!

I was reading somewheres that BNSF Link has granted some running rights to MRL south of Garrison Jct for some removed dam material dumping.....

Yes, the Milltown Dam just east of Missoula has been drained, and the silt is going to be hauled to a repository near Anaconda.  I do not know if MRL will run all the way to the dump site or not.  BN's little island has been getting a little nicer all the time with tie replacements being the biggest operation.  I have not heard any more about UP trying to spin off the Montana Sub to MRL or anybody else, nor have I heard anymore about Homestake.  Until either or both happens, or BNSF Link leases this island back out, I fear it will be very stale around here.

Hello Again!
It looks as if another change is going to take place real soon.  Rarus, formerly the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific will be sold.  It does not appear to be Montana Rail Link purchasing the short line.  Here is the link to the Montana Standard newspaper article.

Hello again everybody,
I just thought I'd drop a line here today...The only excitement around here is with the once again Butte Anaconda and Pacific, recently renamed by it's new parent company Patriot Rail.  As far as BNSF Island is concerned, the drama has cooled.  Trains are moving from Butte to Garrison, locomotives get swapped out occasionally, and track maintainence gets done.  So, instead of me whining about the daily grind of BNSF, I would like to give Anaconda a warm congratulations on finding a seemingly business friendly company to buy it's proud rail line and keeping the Copper King Express going.  I heard rumors of Patriot Rail wanting to start a rail car repair service in Anaconda, I hope it comes to be!

Now let's see if the MW will be integrated into the Rarus now the newly reformed Butte Anaconda & Pacific RR being that the paint scheme is shared . .

Hi Brandon,  Have you been down towards Warm Springs lately? I see that the BNSF has built a siding on the west side of the main line about a mile east of the road crossing East of Warm Springs. There was a lot of activity on the levies  on the east side of the nasty holding pond areas, west of the mail line also.
Do you know if they are already hauling the toxic stuff  from the Milltown Dam site.
Did the new owners of he Rarus put on nicer coaches for the passenger train. The ones that were on there last summer were commuter type and not the most comfy. But still a good trip tho.

There is a suggestion being made for a Pacific Northwest forum, that could include Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Montana.  Please click on the link to show your support!

I read recently that some trackage near Anaconda is slated for abandonment.   Any pics?

Well, the New Butte, Anaconda, and Pacific is removing the rail West of the Anaconda Roundhouse towards Spring Hill.  They currently have a lot of lumber cars in storage on that rail.  I shot some pictures in January, I will try to get those on here.
