Does anyone know if there is a way to track which trains the units are currently on? Short of that could we post sightings and photos of them in this thread?
Thanks,

Numerous looks, but no posts, hmmmm.
I have had some luck. First out for me was #156. I caught it on P066 westbound on CSX's Peninsula Sub at CA. 23 on 4/12/11.

A few days later I was able to catch #66 on Train #66. I think this one had just come east for the first time. It was also nice because this time there was some sun.

Mike,

It won't help you track all of the engines, but this site from Amtrak will help to give some idea where two of them are at any given time.

Add another Phase III unit... this time a F40PH!!!

Well, much to my shock and surprise I am now 4 for 4! Amtrak #145 was on P067-27 coming into Newport News, VA on 4/27/11. They seem to be keeping these in the area of Washington DC until National Train Day. I hope we get reports when they start to roam the country.

#145 has hung onto its position on the point of Trains #67/#66 for a few days now. Here we have it Westbound on #66 on 4/29/11. The sun was less than cooperative today. Just before and after this shot I had full sun and planned a 3/4 shot of the whole train. As luck would have it, the train and a dark cloud arrived at the same time. I made a few quick adjustments on the camera and my location and this is the result. Not what I planned, but I think I will keep it.

National Train Day at Washington Union Station allowed me to catch #822, the unit assigned to power the museum train, in phase 3 paint.

And last, some might say least due to the lack of an engine, we have Cab Control Unit #406 representing all the real F40PHs Amtrak used for all those many years. They had this on the other end of the museum train at WAS.

Amtrak 156 at Rocklin California on # 5 stopped at Rocklin waiting on very late # 6 to cross over to the # 2 main.   The crew was on the ground for the roll by and pointed out the 156 to the east bound train.

This is the return # 6 the next day eastbound with the 156 at the cross overs.

Thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these units as they scatter across the system. The crew looks proud of "their" unit.

Thanks for the reply.

They were having fun and #6 eastbound had just crossed over from # 1 track in Rocklin to the #2 main.  The crew was doing a roll by but had fun with it.

The 156 is on the same train for this Saturday here so I should get it with a trailing Heritage unit if it all goes well.

The 156 came west again today with the 66 and I caught it several times but leaving Roseville today it passed the UP  1996 Heritage unit.

#145 seems to be hanging around out east. It has worked #67 & #66 and some other east coast trains. It was on #67/66 today, 5/25/11. Here it is westbound at CA 30, just west of Lee Hall, VA.

Nice.   Maybe it will break out and come west or the Starlight train from LA to Portland some day.

The 145 came west by Roseville going to Oakland on # 5 yesterday and led train # 6 east today in better light than the 10 PM arrival last night.

The 184 gets around the system.  I caught it several times on # 5 and #6 in the past two months and recently on the snow train with #66 west from Reno back to the Bay area.

Thanks.   From wha we heard, these two are running on the snow train this month but will be released soon to be back on the system wide trains.

#145 was back in Williamsburg, VA on train #66 on 4/14/12 at 1827Hrs. He was over 1 hour late at this point in the journey. Private car Dover Harbor was bringing up the markers.

Looks like Trains 66 & 67 are getting the Heritage units lately. Here we have P066-20 accelerating out of Newport News, VA right on time with #156 doing the honorers at 1720Hrs.

All-

Very nice images of Amtrak Heritage power.

It has been quite a while since I have seen an Amtrak Heritage Unit. #184, the Phase IV P42DC was on Train #66 as it slid through Lee Hall, VA. Good eyes will note the wave from the engineer. It was not at me, but the crew on the eastbound coal train just out of the frame on track #1.

CSX was nice enough to clean up the foreground for me. Amtrak Locomotive #822, a P40DC in Phase III Heritage Unit paint leads train #66 through Lee Hall, VA on 9/23/14 at 1734Hrs.

Looks like #66 will be out for a while. I'm hearing it was involved in an altercation with a semi in Joliet, IL today. Good news is the crew is ok. I wonder what the cab camera caught.

If NTSB investigates, that (cab camera) footage will appear in due course. Unless somebody gets it sooner, of course.

Yah know, the "Heritage unit" rendition of the original Bloody Nose AMTRAK scheme looks better than the original did. Of course, licensing the Warbonnet would look better yet - maybe following the D&H variation (or Santa Fe's own repainted Fs in Blue and silver)
