The new Electric unit is headed to the Testing Facility at Pueblo Colorado if the information is correct.  It went east today on # 6.

Hmm... cat eyes!!!  I like it!!!

But it seems to me that the cab side windows are too small... would bet some crew members will feel the same way.

I agree the side windows are probably too small.   The front windows are fairly large so the vision forward should be very good.

Suckers are plug-ugly, too. Very undistinguished in appearance. Raymond Loewy or Richard Dreyfuss should have been called in.

I don't recall EMD or GE having their name on the side like that. Will all the new units advertise for Siemens?

Demonstrators pretty well always or engines that hadn't been accepted yet sometimes had the maker's name. I suspect that since the engine doesn't have AMTRAK swoosh on it, it may not have been actually accepted pending testing.  So still has the maker name until fully accepted. Just a guess.

True, the new units have not been tested completely.
# 6 today included the 601 Electric Eastbound to   I am not sure if this unit is going to the test center or east to the Northeast tracks.
This one did not have any lettering. If you compare the two pictures of the 600 and 601, you will notice some differences.

Last I heard, 600 & 601 were to go to the testing facility, 602 was to be moved to the corridor for testing.  Of course plans could well have been changed.

Cicadas, A/k/a 17 year locusts. And not even a Santa Fe passenger War-bonnet would cure the case of the uglies they have.

I caught the 602 going east to Colorado for testing at the FRA site.  All of the units have different lettering. This one had the rolling billboard look.

602 is supposed to be heading east for testing on the NEC.  I suspect first stop will be DC, which may see a press conference.  Then it will probably move to the Wilmington Shops for a once over there, prior to being pulled out of the shops for testing during the overnight.

And early in the morning this past Tuesday the 2nd, 602 did indeed arrive at the WIL shops.

I would guess that some of the money in the contract is for engineering, but the total contract price amortized on the number of units is expensive!

Yes, i would expect so, though they seem to be pretty much straight clones of currently manufactured designs used elsewhere.

Curious... does anyone have pix of the other Siemens loco in Delaware for testing on the NEC?

There was a video of the units in test in Colorado test center, but I have not seen any pictures on the NEC.
