"AMFLEET" sidenote:

Though I have not been near any sort of AMTRAK consist in many years, one thing that does remain firmly imbedded in my memory are the sounds of an AMFLEET consist braking for a station stop.

It seemed to be more of a drawn-out groan, which I have long associated with the AMFLEET equipment......

Doesn't all the AMFLEET stuff have inside-bearing trucks with disk brakes? If so that might expalin the different braking sound as compared to more usual experience.

You may be right on this.

It would certainly explain the distinctive sounds I've long associated with the AMFLEET equipment......
