Sunset limited - Current Schedule

Question: Does anyone have any experience with the current (since May) schedule for the Sunset?

Eastbound, the departure (late night, 10:00PM) is not unreasonable, and while the stops between LAUS and Tuscon aren't great in terms of time, the other large cities (Tuscon 0728; El Paso 1310; San Antonio arr 0450, dpt 0645; Houston 1120, and NOLA 2140) aren't bad. San Antonio and Houston MUCH better. Presuming time-keeping is decent...

West-bound looks to have similarly useful times.

Thoughts? Beyond "It would be nice to have a daily train?" or "They really ought to be able to beat that timing".

I took the Sunset from New Orleans to Houston back in May. While I missed the fun of a day-of-departure breakfast at the Camellia Grill, the schedule was a lot more accommodating for the folks who picked me up. Now that the eastbound train leaves Houston at a decent hour of the morning, I've been able to talk Mom & Dad into joining me for a weekend in New Orleans next month.

Have a good time in the Big Easy and give us a trip report when you get back, Eric. Ought to get some decent pictures crossing Looseyanna, and for that matter Southeast Tejas. Got good bridges across the rivers, too. Too bad there isn't a dome to take pictures of those from, but the lounge ought to give a decent view.

Have they built the new "station" at Beaumont yet?

Clyde,

Yes, it opened earlier this month in fact.  Here's a local story on the opening, along with a few pictures.

Beaumont Enterprise.

Thanks. I gather the police sub-station has a restroom avilable to passengers, while the "Station" is a platform and a shelter. Well, better than what they had for the past several years.
