By the Amtrak Timetable, this should be Acela Express Train #2104. This bridge spans the Raritan River at New Brunswick, NJ. Photo taken on 8/16/12 at 1011Hrs.

P32-8BH #512 was on Train #99 into Newport News, VA tonight. I think there are only 18 of these left on the roster.

There are 17 left on the active roster.  Not sure if there are any in mothballs or wreck status.

Here we have Amtrak #120 on train 02E-03 eastbound at West End Portlock. What, you say you can't find an 02E in the timetable and Portlock is not listed on an Amtrak route map? Simple answer, this is a qualifying run for the new service to Norfolk, VA. Photo taken on 11/3/12 at 1100Hrs.

Amtrak train #66 still leaves Newport News at 1645Hrs, but this time of year that is close to sunset. So here he is with #200, blasting off under the old C&O signals that guard the entrance to Newport News Yard. 11/29/12.

Nice catch on the sunset with the signals.
I caught that unit #200 recently in Calfornia.

Good catch. I need to get out to the Northeast Corridor before all the old units are gone.

This is the first of the three already finished but they should start running in service some time this year.

Those things are not what I'd call good looking. Where is Raymond Loewy, or Richard Dreyfuss, when you need him?

These days, "pretty" costs more! Should one get into some older photos, the all new SIEMENS units are simply more of an old theme.
Take a look at SNCF (France) power of now over more than five decades back. Seems like old times?

Vern  - yeah, I know that.  No telling what a custom design, even minor cosmetics, would cost. Wouldn't be money well spent IMO. But the things are still ugly. Just like the French predecessors. I recall most of the German electrics from my time in Germany near fifty years gone as being, at least, sort of hulking. Had a sort of a sense of presence. Which from the pictures, these don't. Oh well, as long as they work right.

No doubt design is not part of the expenses for this loco.  It they run well, they will probably be around for many years.

Today the third unit, #602 went east to Colorado to the testing facility.

This one is a rolling billboard of information.

This is the only one so far that has the graphics.

Saturday, the 10th of August, the 603 went east making it the fourth unit to be sent out of the Siemens factory.  I caught it on #6 at Stanford Curve on Donner Pass.   The 603 is the first one to have the Amtrak logo on the sides from the factory.
