I think my family might have stopped there, on the way to the 1000 Islands - before I-81 was built.  I don't recall anything about it, but here's a photo I took in March, 1976.  The NY Museum of Transportation volunteers were picking up Solvay Process tank engine #47.

In recent years, I searched for a website and found a museum of a museum.  A couple items made their way through Rail City: Bath & Hammondsport 2-6-0 #11, LA&L 2-8-0 #38, and Rochester Transit #60.

Visited Rail City during the summer of 1972. Rode the loop behind what I believe was a gas-mechanical loco account it was mid week and ex-B&H No. 11 was tied down awaiting the heavier weekend crowd.

Today little is left of the museum and the grounds have been cleared of all rail equipment. The water tank/observation tower is long gone as is the little western town. The rail loop is long gone, as well. The depot still stands but has been converted to a private residence or was going to be at last report.

The property on which the museum was located is posted private.

Here is a photo taken during my 1972 visit.

Speaking of ex-B&H #11 and ex-LA&L #38, both have been purchased by the Everett RR. The Western Maryland RR is restoring them for the Everett RR. I don't have an ETA for return to service, but #11 will be completed first.
