These cars were used in the days of steam. They were chosen because they were used in the end of steam ceremonies with their steamer No.39

Hi,
 
I always thought of the LIRR's "double deckers" as true double deckers, but actually they are not. Their height was limited due to the tunnel height limitations. The walkway was halfway between the upper and lower seats. You stepped down for the lower seats and stepped up for the upper seats. Interesting cars, and as I remember it, they ran fairly smoothly.
