Ok, I put off a trip to the Museum opening weekend cause I was afraid it would be packed. It was. Which is great. I plan on getting down there in another two weeks or so.

They have a stable of operating locos- including a GP30 and I think an SD24. Steamers that work are the Mason, the Lafayette, and an 0-4-0 tank engine they restored for trips along the B&O's first mile from the museum. However, the tank engine was damaged in the collapse. They are reluctant to run the Mason because of its antiquity.

Check out my RAILIMAGES site for some photos of the Museum prior to the collapse, along with some other neat photos.

Never mind, found it posted some where else...

Steam Days
Saturday, October 7 & Sunday, October 8, 2006
Saturday, 10 a.m. 5 p.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m. 4 p.m.
Ride behind the recently restored St. Elizabeth, a 1950 Porter built-saddle tank steam engine. Programs and demonstrations highlight steam power and celebrate the 150th anniversary of B&O's William Mason, a classic American Type 4-4-0 steam locomotive.

Are they going to bring in other steam engines for these days? Seems like it might be kind of hard to have an accurate steam display with just what I would call the extremes, a saddle tank and a classic 4-4-0. But thats not sayin I don't think they could do a good job without other steamers. Im just glad they have at least 2 steamers that run. Do they keep the William Mason in the roundhouse at all times? What about the saddle tank? I dont think that I saw either of them when I was there.

Anybody seen the progress of the backshop lately? Last time I was there it was almost finished and the newest shop in the yard was set to open in a month.

Thanks for the help.

I know the saddle tanker is, or atleast was in the shop, I'm not sure if shes done yet, and Im pretty sure the 4-4-0's in the roundhouse, unless she was moved to the shop for maintance or a check up.
Last time I was there the shop was done, I don't know about the yards though, They give shop tours at 1 everyday, or atleast that was the time last year.
Also does anyone know how the other 2 steamers in the shop are going? Last October I saw a tidbit on the news about them moving 2 engines from the roundhouse into the new shops to be restored cosmetically...
