Title: Enquiry about ALCo.-GE's 115 ton diesels for Argentina.
Post by JulioC. on Apr 28th, 2013, 10:07am
Back in 1954, Argentina State RR's purchased 25 115 ton. units from ALCo-GE, numbered 5501/5525, buider numebrs 31060-31084. 24 came with 12-cylinder model 244G prime movers, serial numbers 12640-12664, and one unit (#5503, b/n. 31062) came with a 12-cylinder model 244E, serial number 13503.
Two questions arise:
1) Are there any official records where I could ascertain the data above?.
2)What is/are the difference(s) between ALCo.'s model 244G and model 244E prime movers?
Thank you very much for all the responses I could get.
Julio C.

Welcome to The Forums JulioC. While I don't have an answer to your questions, I thought you might find this link of interest. It is a cutaway of a 244 engine. I don't think there are major differences between the E & G Models.

I found a list here:
http://www.tamr.org/Andy_Inserra/ALCoXportRoster.pdf
that says they were called Model 115T.

Then this page:
http://thedieselshop.us/GE_Shovelnose.HTML
says they were "Ferrocaril General Mitre" railroad number 5501 - 5525.

They were later renumbered..

I think this is a pair of them:
