I've been hoping i'll spot the SIRT ( Staten Island Rapid Transit) Alco S-4 switcher, built in 1943/44.

Since the SIRT was a part of the B&O, its in the B&O scheme except it says Staten Island on the side, and there is now B&O herald.   My grandma lives on Staten Island and she has seen it recently, but I haven't.  I was actually kind angry. I went ona cruise last week, and the SIRT's big yard. was in plain veiw from the ship, and i saw it's two red cabooses and work train flat car, but the S-4 wasn't present.

I'll find it one day, the SIRT isn't that big.

The Kiski Junction RR in Schenley PA runs this classic 1943 vintage Alco S2 (former U.S. Navy, I believe) on its 2 miles or so of track along the Kiskiminetas river below Ford City,PA. The train only operates on Tuesday and Saturday, hauling passengers and frieght.

My contibution to this forum consists of two photographs of the rare-operating ALCo RSD-1 No. 8669 at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.  On the week of July 25th, 2006, Steam Locomotive 610 was having some boiler work done, so they cranked up ole' 8669, built in 1944 for export to Europe, and she was pulling the Missionary Ridge Local.  Boy can she smoke but she is certainly what I think of when I hear the word ALCo.

Have they put the "NEW" C424's in service yet?

No they are never even going to be in service!!!!!   They have something wrong with them but they still run.  They are going to scrap them because the other 2 C-424s that they have, their generators are going out so they will replace the generators with the other 2 C-424s.  A friend told me that the new C-424s have almost new generators and the old ones dont.    At least the others will still run.

There is an Alco RS-2 operating at the Texas State Railroad museum. I have video of it, but no still pics (I'll grab a screen capture for now, and post video). It is fully restored and used to pull excursion trains. I am an ALCO noob, so somebody help me out. Someone who watched the video thinks it's not the original engine, but I don't know just from hearing it.

Some days, the most interesting person you meet is a river with a train running beside it.

3 M630/636s have just been reactivated on the LAL system.  2 ex NYSW units, now WNYP nos. 637 and 638 are being readied for shipment to WNYP at Cohocton, NY.  And WNYP 631 (ex Minnesota Commercial #73) is being broken in on the Bath and Hammondsport.  Look in the WNY&P, LA&L & B&H forum for pics.

The Falls Road, a GVT-owned shortline, rosters a rare RS32. What makes #2035 even more special is the fact she is operating on home rails- both the ROW and the Alco are of New York Central ancestry! Here she is departing the FRRR's yard in Lockport (NY) a year ago this week:

The Medina RR Museum runs excursions on the FRRR's tracks and often borrows the latter's Alcos. Here is #2035 pulling out of Brckport (NY) with a Santa Train last fall:

The excursions on the Falls Road usually operate pull-pull with an Alco at each end. Here is GVT's ex-N&W RS11 #1802 leading the Santa Train back to Brockport:
