Did the condition of the ties and roadbed take a nosedive north of that point?

No.  It still has the same looks at least up to Green Lake trestle.  I've just never seen a demarcation so obvious like that.  Could be nothing, in which case  management at SR/VI is having a good chuckle at my expense. ☺

Its mostly bad ties that require replacement.

That is the beginning of the spur that used to drop down into the shipyard. There are still rails in the ground in the shipyard, and the main walkway from the back gate off Maplebank down into the yard was the route of the spur. A little further south would have been the switch for Superior Propane, but that's long gone...the Wellness Center sits there now.

I'm not sure which shipyard that was but just the other day I photoed the back gate to the Dry Dock
