Looking at some map of Railroads seem to suggest the direction was this way and was heading to Pine Island. Please let me know if this is correct?

Ken-

The ROW alongside of Missionland Road was the main. Pine Island Junction was a couple of miles north of there, north of the hamlet, and west of Pulaski Highway.

The 'junction' you were near was for the Glenwood branch (Pochuck Railroad). That ROW is the one you show crossing the curve of Newport Bridge Rd, by the old Kamarad farm.

The bridge abutments by Walling Road (not Ave.) were for a never-built extension south from that branch to another limestone quarry (the Glenwood served at least one limestone quarry, and a couple of granite quarries up on Pochuck Mountain).

Marty,

As usual, thanks for the clarification.

I just found a copy of the Midlander Trainsheet of the Pochuck Railroad. Perhaps there is some good information in there for this area.

There is a map of of the live and abandoned RRs in this area that says "Empire Quarry" Are the any remains of this?

Ken,
Marty probably knows better being more of a local around there, but there may be remains to see. Although you most likely would need permission being private property. I know a couple of years ago there was talk of reopening it by someone, but it got shot down by (do I dare say it? ) the NIMBYs and such.
You should have given me a shout when you were going. You missed the biggest RR related item in Pine Island and that's the station. It has an addition on the front and used to be a NAPA(Never Any Parts Available, as my dad always liked to joke) store but is now a dance studio(?). Last I knew the station was still intact although attached to the newer building. Check out picture here http://www.gingerb.com/ERIE%20Pine%20Island,%20NY%20Station.jpg/. The addition is where the young man is standing in front of the station.

John,

I should have checked with you first as I remembered you mentioned something about it not too long ago.

As for the link, I can't get to it. Perhaps it was removed.

I'm not done in that area just yet so expect a message asking for you to join us
